ON PURPOSE

Purpose isn’t a shiny place, it’s a state. On Purpose is your invitation to stop doing everything that’s not on purpose.

You’ve likely seen the purpose diagram somewhere online
and thought one of two things:

  1. Wow, I wish my job were this cool.

  2. What a pile of rubbish. It isn’t realistic top have a job that you love, you’re good at, are paid for and the world needs. I feel disempowered, stuck or angry at the diagram.

TINY INNER VOICE:

Maybe maybe just maybe, it is actually possible. There seem to be people who are actually in the centre, maybe not all of the time, but who can wholeheartedly tick all 4 boxes. It is my desire (if you are honest with yourself) to be that person. For what reason ever, you don’t feel that way. Maybe you’re stuck in a job you don’t like, maybe you feel that external circumstances (the economy, the place you live in, your personal obligations). What do you feel when you look at the diagram?

If you’re in the happy go lucky purpose team, you may as well stop reading. On Purpose is for people who don’t quite feel like they’re on it.

 More specifically:

  • Sometimes you feel as though you should have figured it out by now, the whole “what to do with your life” and “being a happy and accomplished grown-up” thing

  • You put up with less than ideal circumstances in the everyday drill and you can take it, but you wish you didn’t have to take anything, you wish work weren’t a drill

  • Dreaming doesn’t feel quite as expansive, impossible and wondrous as it used to. You’re reverting to possible-scenario-thinking-if-I-work-hard instead

  • You used to dislike it when grown-ups said “you gotta do what you gotta do” and here you are

  • You sometimes slip into self-judgement and self-sabotage “I’m too old/young/inexperienced/emotional/disorganised to make a change”

  • When you do venture out into the land of leaving it all behind, your thoughts tend to be extreme: “I’m quitting it all and selling cupcakes on a tropical beach”

  • You aren’t sure whether it’s possible to experience a work reality that you love, are good at, that the world needs and that you’re paid for. But it sounds pretty neat

  • You’re often angry at your boss/ organisation/ industry because it’s all smoke and mirrors and, if you’re honest to yourself, not what you signed up for

  • Your obligations, lifestyle and expectations of yourself keep you firmly put in your current position and you know what? It’s fine most of the time

  • Sometimes you would like to know how to emotionally uncouple yourself

  • Sometimes, just sometimes, you wish you had an inner advocate that tells you “yes, this is the right place” or “no, we are drawing a line in the sand right here”

... You need courage and self-belief to get the ball rolling.

.... Sometimes you think it's too late (then you remember you tell your friends it's never too late).

.... You believe that change can happen gently.

...You’d like to feel more confident that you’re on the right career path

....You want to be soemone who stands for what they believe in

… You want to be genuinely excited more

… You’d like to know how to let go of things and say no without feeling like a failure

On Purpose was designed for people who are ready to poke their head out of the box, take responsibility for what they yearn for

and explore the world beyond business as usual.

The On Purpose Roadmap:

Introduction:

Why (and how) working with Purpose works (and how to give yourself permission to actually do this)

Chapter 1: What’s Purpose and why you should care

The reason you are stuck somewhere between desire and doing

Why dreaming out loud is so damn scary and important

Why you never feel like a dream come true.

Chapter 2: Transforming your own bullshit

How resistance works and why hating it or pretending it's not there is counterproductive

Uncovering resistance myths

Getting in the bullshit transformation mindset

Learning your personal language of resistance

What to do when you are in a resistance shithole

Chapter 3: Purposeful Dreaming & Planning

How to dream crazy big without feeling crazy

How getting it out gives you the choice to lovingly letting go, move forward or recognise that you are in the perfect place

How to move from dreaming to doing with grace and confidence

How to put together all the individual pieces and turn a dream into an actionable concept

Chapter 4: Purposeful Doing

What if this is easy?

Why intentions are more powerful than expectations

How to get ahead: ask for feedback, guidance and money and feel great while doing it (these are honest conversation templates)

How to take bold baby steps with what you have

How to get people (the ones that matter) on board

Just to be really transparent with you. On Purpose is NOT for you if:

....You are looking for a 'how to leave the 9-5 and launch my business' course …

....You believe work is supposed to be hard and that success is rooted in sacrifice.

... You are not ready to call yourself on your bullshit or do any type of looking inside.

... You are absolutely happy with your life, feel your path under your feet and love dreaming and doing.

.... The word “bullshit” is so offensive to you, you won’t be able to work with it.

Biggest frustration:

  • Not keeping my own promises to myself

  • Somehow i keep prioritising work over my wellbeing and my relationships (I don’t do it concsiously but I get into a flow with work where i forget time and commitments)

  • I seek acknowledgement and recognition (self-worth externalised to the structure)

  • I dont understand my purpose and meaning and its fucking easy to push away because you’Re so busy

  • Whats the meaning and purpose of my work. It’s a fucking job

  • How can i find meaning for my life outside of work. Dunno how to get started

  • I have a spark! What do i do with it

  • I havent allowed myself time to reflect that deeply

What are you currently doing?

  • Push it away

  • Dont thnk of it as a problem

  • Work harder, work smarter

  • Work out, spend time outdoors

  • Habits: call my mom/ sister/ friend twice a week

  • I try!

  • I take online courses and watch ted talks

  • Acting class

  • I want to learn how to play guitar, learn another language - invest in skills i really want to learn that don’t require my brain but my soul

  • It’s not my brain that’s going to get me to the next level

What happens if you don’t solve it

  • I’ll burn out

Magic wand:

I would run 5 different companies that all have meaning and purpose

I spend myself traveling, living in takaungu

Write book

Have kids - be an unbusy mother of 2, a great friend, enjoy life.

Solution:

Clarity - “I am here to do this and relentlessly go for that”

Commitment

Keeping promises to myself first and foremost

Being a little more vulnerable: getting rid of the need to have internal recognition

Redefining what success looks like

To get to that place, i need a different soul level

Being more gutsy
